Meet the Coaches & Hosts
Mani, USPTA/USPTR, is a native of Arlington, VA, and the Founder & Director of TopNotch Tennis. TopNotch Tennis is the largest outdoor tennis program in Northern VA. Mani has been coaching for 15 years & is very passionate about tennis. He strives to help develop a player’s technique, stroke production, mental & physical toughness, & court strategy. He creates a learning environment that is fun, educational and high-energy.
Jorge was born in Costa Rica and has spent over half of his life in Washington, DC & Florida & now Ohio. He has played and taught tennis at high levels, including playing for Costa Rica’s Davis Cup team. Stephanie was born in Columbus, Ohio and spent 9 years in Washington, DC where Jorge shared his love of tennis with her. We’d be honored to host you at our villa, Pura Vida House, and show you a great time in Costa Rica.

Location
The Pura Vida House is located within Hacienda Pinilla Beach Resort, just outside of Tamarindo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. We are close enough to town to enjoy an abundance of fun nightlife, international bistros and boutique shopping, but far enough to remember why you came to visit. Costa Rica, which is rated one of the happiest countries in the world, has more than 2 million US citizens visit every year!
Getting Here
Fly into Costa Rica’s Liberia International Airport (LIR), located one hour up the coast from Pura Vida House and Hacienda Pinilla.
LIR Airport is only 2 1/2 hours from Miami, so usually about 4-5 hours total fly time from most US cities.
All major airlines fly from the US into LIR daily, and over 20 cities have direct flights. Lately our guests have been finding great fares on Southwest. From US cities, expect to pay between $300-$600, depending on time of year (Christmas, New Years and Easter weeks are always highest).

This custom-built luxury 4-bedroom villa is located within Hacienda Pinilla, Costa Rica’s most prestigious 5-star beach resort, near Tamarindo.
Located in a gated beach community, Hacienda Pinilla Beach Resort, featuring 3 miles of pristine, white-sand beaches. You will enjoy an outdoor entertainment area with a pool. The living room and kitchen are an open space concept with 20-foot ceilings and exposed beams. All bedrooms are spacious and the Master bedroom features a tropical outdoor shower.
Adjacent owner suite means you have on-site access to your hosts’ local knowledge and off-the-beaten-path places like waterfalls, rainforests, volcanoes, hot springs, giant turtles, colorful birds and mammals and so much more. As a former tennis instructor and coach, I was looking for high quality instruction in a fun environment. Mani Barajas-Alexander strikes the perfect balance infusing competitive tennis into happy, playful surroundings. He has an incredible knack for pairing player skills and personality, making clinics and practices feel like a party with friends in no time. I always leave our sessions together feeling like my technical skills have been improved, my knowledge of the game enlightened, and happy to have played and laughed with great people.

Pura Vida House provides a perfect Costa Rica vacation setting. Food is excellent and the setting with monkeys, birds and iguanas makes you feel the atmosphere immediately. The hosts will take you anywhere for hiking, horse back riding, tennis, beach surfing sailboating or nature trips.

The thing that makes Pura Vida House really stand out is the atmosphere. Stephanie and Jorge, truly made us feel like part of a family. All transportation was provided, every detail arranged. Pastora always had plenty food available at mealtime, and there was always something extra in the fridge - like home, but better.
